Iglesia Presbiteriana del Uruguay (Presbyterian Church of Uruguay) is privileged to meet for worship each week on the Lord’s Day. It is a joy for God’s covenant people to come before him corporately in order to give praise and glory to the Living God as well as to receive from him all that we need for spiritual growth and nourishment through his appointed means of Word and sacrament. There are typically 30-40 people in attendance. There is one worship service with a time of fellowship afterward.
There are also activities throughout the week. Thursday nights is a basic doctrinal theology class for people who want to become members and for those wishing to dig deeper into God’s Word. The youth group meets on Friday evenings with a time of study in God’s Word, singing praises to the Lord and fun games and delicious food afterward. The church plant ministers to children in the community every Saturday with a “Kid’s Bible Club.”
Throughout the year there are various outreaches. The church organizes a VBS twice a year and partners with a local Baptist church for a marriage conference also twice a year. Short term missions teams help with evangelism and other ministries.
As with any new missions church, one of the primary goals is to become self-governing. The congregation gives thanks to the Lord that as of April 2015, officers have been nominated, ordained and installed. The organizing pastor of the church is Rev. Mauricio Rolim, a missionary with the Brazilian Presbyterian Church (IPB). Pastor Mauricio continues to serve there, praying that one day the Lord will call a Uruguayan man to serve as pastor. The church continues to minister to Christ’s flock under the care of the session and is reaching out to evangelize the lost in Montevideo.
Please pray for God’s blessing on this work!
